Do you think you are sleeping alone on your mattress? You will be shocked to know that there are dust mites, bed bugs and allergens sharing your sleeping place together with you. Therefore, you’d better clean your mattress every season to make sure there are no risks to sleep on your mattress. Even if it doesn’t look dirty, invisible bacteria may spread on it very fast so don’t ignore the necessity of taking some sanitary measures.
Bob Vila, an American expert in home improvement, suggests to follow the below steps to keep your mattress cleaned.
1) Vacuum all mattresses of your bedding, paying special attention to the lines of seams. These are the places where most harmful microorganisms locate. Our recommendation is to use vacuum cleaners with HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters. Filters that meet certain efficiency standards are qualified by The United States Department of Energy (DOE). HEPA filters are specially designed to arrest very small pollutants that include bed bugs and dust mites.
2) If you have small children, it is quite possible that on the mattress might appear stains from urine, felt-tip pens or juice. Combine water with hydrogen peroxide in equal proportion, pick a soft toothbrush and try to remove these stains. Dry them during five minutes and repeat once again if needed. If you fancy having snacks in your bed, greasy stains created by food may smudge your mattress. Prepare a paste made of water, salt and baking soda. Put some paste on the stain and leave it for 30 minutes. Dampen a piece of cloth in cold water and wipe this place. Then use your hair dryer or a fan to dry it.
3) Deodorize your mattress by sprinkling some baking soda on top of it. Allow it to stand for one hour and then clean it with a hoover.
4) If your mattress is two-sided, ask your partner to help you flip it. After flipping it entirely, powder it with baking soda and after one hour hoover up the baking soda. If you have a one-sided mattress, the best idea is to rotate it from the head of your bed to the foot.
Finding the best mattress is not only the matter of peaceful sleep but also the question of health and your life quality. Once your perfect mattress is chosen, don’t forget that it needs cleaning regularly. We wish you sweet dreams every night!
